Each year, Urth works directly with a tea garden to improve quality & sustainability, and to secure the "first pick" teas, which are the best. These select teas are air-shipped directly to Urth Caffé soon after harvest for an unrivaled freshness.
Our Asian teas have been produced for hundreds of years the traditional way - without chemicals. Many of our tea gardens have been certified organic. Every year Urth helps others who are not certified get their certification by paying the fee. Our tea farmers have great pride in the purity of their teas and are stewards of the land. We support fair trade and sustainable practices such as livestock programs and premium wages that improve the lives of the farmers and their families.
Jilla Berkman, co-founder and Urth Tea Master, oversees the in-house blending and scenting of all Urth Caffé teas. Some tea blends remain secret, known only to Jilla. These are blended by her, and her alone. Scenting teas require the finest, all-natural ingredients such as the certified organic, cold-pressed oil of bergamot which is used in our exclusive, organic Classic Earl Grey tea.
